CA Immigration Consultant
Form I-9 Section 2 verification

You hired in Silicon Valley. Your HR is somewhere else.

Federal law requires every new U.S. employee to complete Form I-9 within three business days of starting work. Section 2 requires in-person examination of original identity and work authorization documents — an HR team in Austin, Boston, or New York can’t physically inspect documents held by an employee in San Jose.

That’s where an authorized representative comes in. Federal law lets you designate someone local to physically examine the documents on your behalf and complete Section 2. We provide remote I-9 verification San Jose service for out-of-state employers across the South Bay and Peninsula.

California has strict rules about who can perform out-of-state employer I-9 work for compensation. We’re a bonded California Immigration Consultant registered under Business & Professions Code §22441 — legally authorized to act as your representative in California.

Who we serve

Built for remote-first hiring

Our I-9 verification Silicon Valley service handles employment eligibility verification for new hires whose employer is anywhere outside the Bay Area. Common situations:

Tech & remote workers

I-9 for tech worker Silicon Valley — engineers and product staff hired by Austin, Seattle, or East Coast tech companies onboarding remote-first.

Out-of-state HR teams

HR managers at companies based in Texas, New York, Florida, or anywhere else needing in-person Section 2 verification for a new Bay Area hire.

Tight start-date deadlines

The federal 3-business-day clock is ticking. I-9 Section 2 in-person San Jose appointments often available same-day at our office for time-sensitive new hires.

Mobile to your location

For employees who can’t come to our office, our mobile I-9 verification San Jose service travels to your home or workplace within 10 miles.

California-bonded credential

Why credential matters in California

Most states allow anyone the employer designates to act as I-9 authorized representative. California is stricter — Business & Professions Code §22440 limits paid services to licensed attorneys, federally-authorized immigration providers, or bonded Immigration Consultants registered under §22441. As a credentialed authorized representative I-9 Bay Area provider, we hold the bonded Immigration Consultant credential, so you can confidently designate us under California law.

How it works

From hire date to completed Section 2

Four steps from your employer’s designation to a properly completed Form I-9 Section 2.

1

Employer designates us

Your HR sends us a brief authorization email naming us as the I-9 representative, along with the partially-completed Form I-9 (Section 1 already done by employee).

2

Schedule the appointment

Employee books an in-office or mobile appointment. Same-day slots often available for tight start-date deadlines.

3

We examine documents

Employee brings original identity and work authorization documents (List A, or List B + List C). We physically examine them and verify they appear genuine.

4

Section 2 completed

We complete and sign Section 2 as your authorized representative, then send the finished form back to your HR. Employer retains the I-9 per federal recordkeeping rules.

Honest scope

What we handle — and what we don’t

I-9 has multiple parts. We focus on the in-person document examination step that out-of-state employers can’t do themselves.

What we do

The in-person verification step

  • Act as your authorized representative under federal I-9 rules
  • In-person examination of original identity and work authorization documents
  • Complete and sign Section 2 on your behalf
  • Return the completed form to your HR within hours
  • In-office or mobile (within 10 miles of San Jose)
  • Bonded California Immigration Consultant credential
What we don’t do

Other pieces (and where to handle them)

  • Section 1 — the employee fills this out before the appointment
  • E-Verify case creation — employer’s responsibility through the E-Verify portal
  • Recordkeeping — employer retains the form per federal rules
  • Legal advice on immigration status — consult a licensed immigration attorney
  • Reverification (Supplement B) — employer handles when work authorization expires
Common questions

Frequently asked questions about I-9 verification

Why does Section 2 require in-person document examination?
Federal regulations require the authorized representative to physically examine the employee’s original identity and work authorization documents to determine they appear genuine and relate to the person presenting them. Photo or video review is only allowed under the DHS alternative procedure, which requires the employer to be enrolled in E-Verify and follow specific live-video protocols. For most employers, in-person examination is the simpler and more reliable path.
What does my employer need to send before our appointment?
Two things: (1) a brief email from your HR designating us as the I-9 authorized representative, and (2) the Form I-9 with Section 1 already completed by you (the employee). We complete Section 2 at the appointment and return the finished form to your HR.
What documents do I need to bring?
You need original documents (no copies). Either one document from List A (such as US Passport or Permanent Resident Card), or one document from List B (such as driver’s license) plus one from List C (such as Social Security card or birth certificate). The full lists are on the last page of Form I-9 at uscis.gov.
How fast can you complete the verification?
In-office appointments typically take 15-20 minutes. Same-day appointments are often available subject to schedule — useful for tight start-date deadlines under the federal 3-business-day rule. Mobile appointments add travel time but the verification itself is the same length.
Why does California require a bonded Immigration Consultant?
California Business & Professions Code §22440 restricts paid services to licensed attorneys, federally-authorized immigration providers (BIA-accredited representatives), or Immigration Consultants bonded and registered with the California Secretary of State under §22441. Hiring an unbonded individual for paid services in California can expose your company to compliance issues. We hold the bonded credential.
Can you also handle E-Verify for our company?
No. E-Verify case creation is the employer’s responsibility through the federal E-Verify portal. We complete the in-person Section 2 verification; your HR or designated E-Verify user submits the case in E-Verify after we return the completed I-9.
What if our office is more than 10 miles from San Jose?
Call (408) 766-3528 with the address and we’ll quote a custom travel fee. We routinely serve Cupertino, Santa Clara, Sunnyvale, Mountain View, Milpitas, and Fremont — most South Bay and Peninsula locations are within practical reach.
Do you handle Live Scan fingerprinting too?
Yes. Many tech employers ask new hires to complete Live Scan fingerprinting or an FBI Background Check alongside employment eligibility verification. We can bundle these in a single appointment to save your employee a separate visit.
