How it works for you

Two paths through out of state background check fingerprints

Whether you live in California or are visiting and sending prints home, the process is the same — clean rolled prints on official FBI cards, every field correct the first time.

A
California Resident

You live in CA → sending prints to another state

Most common path. Bay Area nurses picking up Texas RN endorsements. Telehealth doctors adding Florida licenses. Real estate agents expanding into Nevada. FINRA brokers and attorneys sitting for out-of-state bar exams.

B
Visiting California

You’re visiting CA → sending prints to your home state

Less common but well-served: you’re in town for a conference or family visit and your home-state agency needs fresh ink prints. We roll on agency blanks (or our FBI stock) and mail them to the board.

2

Identity check & field prep

We verify your ID, fill in name, DOB, address, signature, and the agency’s ORI on each.

3

Why San Jose chooses us for ink cards

The Bay Area’s walk-in FD-258 office

Most California police departments stopped public ink fingerprinting in 2005, and national mail-only services make you wait days for blank cards before you can even get rolled. We do it in one walk-in — and our partner TrustPoint Disability and Legal Services handles legal-document support when needed.

One Visit, Done

Walk in with your ID, walk out 15 minutes later. No waiting weeks for blanks to arrive before you can even get rolled.

Low Rejection Rate

A certified fingerprint roller captures clean prints the first time. No smudges, no agency rejections, no wasted weeks re-doing.

Mobile Across the Bay

Can’t make it to Blossom Hill Road? We bring rolled-ink service to your home, office, hospital, or law firm.

Multi-State One-Stop

Picking up licenses in three states? Get all the prints rolled in one visit. Trilingual service: English, Spanish, Vietnamese.

Common questions

Out of state fingerprinting, answered straight

Why do I need an FD-258 hard card instead of California Live Scan?
California Live Scan transmits electronically only to the California DOJ. If your requesting agency is in another state or is a federal entity, that agency cannot receive a CA Live Scan transmission. The fix is rolled prints on an FBI FD-258 ink card mailed in physically — the standard “blue card” accepted by every state board and the FBI nationally.
How many FD-258 fingerprint cards should I order?
Most agencies require two FD-258 fingerprint cards — that’s why our base price covers two. Some agencies request only one; some request three. Always check your agency’s instructions. Extra prints beyond the first two are $25 each at the same appointment.
Do you provide the FD-258 fingerprint cards or do I need to bring my own?
We stock official FBI-approved blanks on the latest cardstock with the Privacy Act statement. If your agency mailed you pre-printed FD-258 fingerprint cards with their information already filled in, bring those instead and we’ll roll on them. Either way works.
I’m an out-of-state nurse applying for a California RN license. Can you help?
Yes. The California Board of Registered Nursing accepts FD-258 hard prints from out-of-state applicants. Walk in while you’re in town. We’ll roll, fill in the BRN ORI, and mail directly to BRN at P.O. Box 944210, Sacramento, CA 94244-2100, with the $49 processing fee if you provide it.
What’s the difference between FD-258 and SF-87?
The FBI FD-258 ink card is the standard FBI applicant form used for state licensing, employment, and most background checks. SF-87 is the federal “Standard Form 87” used specifically for federal employment and security clearance. We roll both. Confirm with your agency — using the wrong form causes rejection.
Do you offer card-scan or card-to-Live Scan conversion?
No — we focus on rolling clean ink prints and mailing them out, not converting paper submissions to electronic Live Scan transmissions. If you specifically need that conversion, services like Capital Live Scan in Sacramento specialize in it. For everyone who just needs FD-258 rolled and mailed, we’re faster and in-person.
How long does the appointment take?
About 15 minutes for two prints. Verifying your ID, completing the applicant fields, and rolling all ten fingers cleanly the first time is the whole visit. Walk-ins welcome during business hours.
What if my fingerprints are difficult to capture or get rejected?
Worn ridge lines from age or hand work happen. We take the time to roll cleanly the first time, but if the destination agency rejects an image, return to our office and we’ll re-roll at no charge. You only pay the new postage.
What if my fingerprint card is rejected for print quality?
If a card is rejected because of a rolling error on our end, we re-roll it at no charge. Rejections caused by the agency or the information on the card are not our error, but we will help you correct and resend.
