Frequently Asked Questions

Common Questions

What is an FBI Apostille and why do I need one?
An FBI Apostille is an official certificate issued by the U.S. Department of State that authenticates your FBI Identity History Summary (FBI background check) for use in another country. It’s required when foreign governments, employers, schools, adoption agencies, or visa authorities ask for proof that your FBI document is genuine. Required for most work visas, residency applications, international adoption, and dual citizenship in Hague Convention countries.
Why does it take 12 days when standard processing is 5–8 weeks?
Standard FBI Apostille requires you to mail your FBI report to the U.S. Department of State and wait in their general queue. We use expedited processing channels and handle the submission directly — saving 4–6 weeks. Our 12 business days is the fastest legal turnaround available outside of special government rush requests.
How do I know which path is right for me?
It comes down to one question: do you already have your FBI Identity History Summary? If yes, you only need the apostille step (Path B). If no, you need both fingerprinting AND apostille — Path A is faster and easier since we handle everything in one visit. Call us at (408) 766-3528 and we’ll walk you through it in two minutes based on your country, deadline, and starting point.
Will my apostille be accepted in the country I’m going to?
FBI Apostilles are accepted by all 120+ Hague Convention countries — including Mexico, Spain, Italy, Germany, Japan, Korea, China, India, UAE, Brazil, and most of Europe. For non-Hague Convention countries, you’ll need consular legalization instead (a different process). Call us at (408) 766-3528 if you’re unsure about your destination country.
Do you ship the completed apostille, or do I pick it up?
Both options available. You can pick up at our San Jose office at 434 Blossom Hill Rd during business hours, or we can ship it to your address (small additional shipping fee). We’ll notify you by email when your apostille is ready.
Can I challenge or correct information in my FBI report?
Yes. Many customers obtain their FBI Identity History Summary specifically to review for accuracy and challenge any incorrect information. The apostille provides certified authentication, which can be required for legal review or correction proceedings. We can provide guidance on next steps after you receive your report.
